Nene Goose Giclee
This is a giclee of my "Hawaiian Nene Goose and Gosling at Volcano" piece. There are two available sizes, 11" x 14" for $72, and 8" x 10" for $35. They are both matted, the dimensions are the sizes of the mats. This design is a lino cut. When I get an idea for a piece I research the animals and elements for the design, I will go on excursions with my family on hikes and wildlife journey's to see and photograph the elements I will be using in my art. I spend extensive time on my drawing and composition before transferring and carving into the linoleum block. I then print it onto Japanese rice paper, and carefully hand paint it.
The endangered Nene (Hawaiian Goose) is the state bird of Hawai'i. Unlike other geese, Nene live far from water and have adapted with reduced webbing between their toes. This allows them to survive better on rocky lava flows and dry grass lands. In the 1950's the Nene population was nearly extinct. Captive Nene from England and Hawai'i Island were bred and released back into the wild. Today the Nene can be found on the islands of Hawai'i, Maui, and Kaua'i. The Nene can be seen near Kiluea crater within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Within the park you can also find the native Ohia Lehua blossoms, the endemic Ama'uma'u fern, and the native Ohelo Berry, which is among the Nene's favorite food.
