Hawaiian Cleaner Wrasse Giclee
This is a giclee of my "Hawaiian Cleaner Wrasse at Work" piece. There are two available sizes, 11" x 14" for $72, and 8" x 10" for $35. They are both matted, the dimensions are the sizes of the mats. This design is a lino cut. When I get an idea for a piece I research the animals and elements for the design, I will go on excursions with my family on hikes and wildlife journey's to see and photograph the elements I will be using in my art. I spend extensive time on my drawing and composition before transferring and carving into the linoleum block. I then print it onto Japanese rice paper, and carefully hand paint it.
Hawaiian Cleaner Wrasse often work in pairs and set up their permanent cleaning stations near large Lobe Coral heads. Fish, small and large line up to be serviced with a cleaning. Its a perfect relationship, the fish get cleaned and the busy Hawaiian Cleaner Wrasse gets fed.
Fish in the piece:
The Potter's Angelfish- named for the first director of the Waikiki Aquarium. These fish stay close to Coral for protection.
The Milletseed Butterfly fish- it's Hawaii's most abundant butterfly fish, these fish typically school. Their name comes from their vertical lines of spots resembling seeds of millet.
The Bluestripe Butterfly fish- individuals can be seen in shallow water especially around coral.
All of these fish are endemic to Hawaii, they occur no where else. There is a shape of the Big Island hidden in the carving.
